Solid platinum-cured silicone, the same class of material as baking mats. Wipe with a damp cloth for daily care; for a full reset, rinse it in the sink or tub and towel dry. No grooves means nothing to scrub. It ships folded and relaxes in the cabinet; faint creases may remain and do not affect performance. Unlike filler-heavy blends it will not curl, crack or hold an odor.

The perimeter is a real dam, 0.75 inches of solid silicone standing between a bad night and your cabinet floor. A weeping trap, a seeping supply line, a bottle of cleaner on its side: it stays inside the lip, off the cabinet floor, and out of the renovation budget.

We settled on 0.75 inches after living with taller ones. It is the most water the mat can hold before the wall becomes something you fight every time you slide a bottle or a bin in and out.

Every other mat embosses a honeycomb or diamond pattern into the floor and sells it as a feature. It is pure marketing. Those cells trap crumbs, grease and mildew, so cleaning becomes scrubbing instead of wiping, and the ridges tip bottles and bins as you set them down.

Basin's floor is flat, smooth silicone. Spills wipe away in one pass and everything you stand on it stays standing. Simplicity wins.
